German Centre of the ITI
The International Theatre Insitute devotes itself to the reciprocal
exchange of theatre artists worldwide and to an improved understanding
of world cultures. The German Centre shapes and initiates projects,
realizes its own Festival, symposia and workshops, and supports artistic
encounters on an international level. It also advises artists, organisers
and producers about international collaborations.

Goethe-Institut
The Goethe Institute, as an institution, works worldwide to foster cultural
cooperation. It stages cultural events, encourages Festival contributions
in many forms including dance, theatre, literature and translation. Amongst
its multifarious activities is support for the following: for German companies
to tour abroad; for artists from emerging countries to experience residencies
in Germany; for the translation of German books and plays into other languages
and for the publication of German literature in translation.

Literarisches Colloquium Berlin
The Literary Colloquium in Berlin gives targeted support to art and
science. The form of this support includes encounters and conversations
between writers, translators, members of other literary professions
and the readership / audience. The Colloquium is the birthplace and
now the home to the 'Arbeitsgemeinschaft literarischer Gesellschaften
und Gedenkstätten' (the Association of literary societies and memorial
foundations) and since 1977 is also home to the German Translators'
Foundation.

Verband deutschprachiiger Übersetzer literarischer und wissenchaftlicher
Werke e.V. (VdÜ) (The Association for Translators of literary and
scientific works into German)
This is the professional association for literary translators. It provides
accessible and clear biographical details of its members, including
contact addresses and details of their work. It also provides information
about seminars and events, as well as services available. The site also
gives details of numerous prizes, the conditions attached to them, entry
details and how awards have been allocated, as well as contact addresses
and information about residencies, bursaries for residencies, and travel
and workshop grants.

Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium Straelen
This Translators' Centre - College, situated in Straelen near the Dutch
border, is open to professional literary translators as a fully equipped
centre for work and study. It offers residencies, holds seminars and
is co-responsible with the art foundation NRW for presenting the Translators'
Prize, an award amounting to 25.000Euro.

Theater-Transfer/ Transfert - Théâtral
Since 1999 the DVA Foundation annually awards four generous grants to
German and French translators. Its aim is to promote German - French
exchange ' by awarding grants for certain translations of plays by living
playwrights, whose work contributes significantly to the development
of contemporary theatre in their respective countries'. Deadline for
applications is the 31st March each year.

Berliner Festspiele - Stückemarkt
The Berlin Play Market is held in the framework of the 'Theatertreffen'
Berlin, mounted by the Berlin Festival. The year's most outstanding
productions are shown at the Theatertreffen, whilst the Play Market
presents new dramatic works in performed readings, often plays by, as
yet, little known playwrights. From 2003 onwards, work by playwrights
from other parts of Europe has been presented alongside that of their
German counterparts.

FIND - Festival Internationale Neue Dramatik

Hamburger Autorentheatertage
Since 2000 and its season, the Thalia-Theater has run a special playwrights'
event. From the countless plays submitted to the theatre, the best are
selected by the new adjudicator, Simone Meier. These are presented to
the public in the form of readings and workshop productions in the course
of the 'Writers' Long Night'. Visiting companies and podium discussions
round out the programme.

Heidelberger Stückemarkt
The Play Market in Hamburg is an annual Festival. A European country

Mülheimer Theatertage "Stücke"
Up to eight German world premiere productions of the current season
are invited each year to this Festival, which has been an annual event
since 1976 and the best play is awarded the prestigious Mülheim
Playwrights' prize.
Translators from abroad are invited to a workshop, held every to years
by the ITI German Centre to coincide with the Festival.

Theaterbiennale Wiesbadener: Neue Stücke aus Europa
The Bonner Biennale first came into existence in 1992. Since 2004 the
Festival has been held in Wiesbaden at the State Theatre and exclusively
stages plays by contemporary playwrights in their original language
with a simultaneous translation into German. A young playwrights' forum
is also held, using German and English as the working languages. There
are also symposia and discussions focussing on current issues in European
theatre.
